Louisa's Lament Annie Graham

Louisa’s Lament

by Annie Graham

More recently, I have been delighted to work closely with Dr. Pat Oakley on her book Louisa’s Lament.  Based in Victorian London, around Guy’s Hospital, my challenge was to illustrate what she had seen in her mind as the book was being written.

With extensive research, and working closely with the client, I was able to incorporate my graphic design and illustration skills to create this series of  complex illustrations to bring her book to life.

You can find more information about this fascinating book and order a copy at: www.patoakleypublishing.london

Illustrations for Louisa’s Lament

1880. Nurse Ingle goes from being a hard-working nurse at London’s Guy’s hospital to a despised outcast, shunned and condemned.

Read this inspiring true story which I have had the pleasure of illustrating. Louisa’s Lament by Annie Graham.

Exhibition

So much fun to organise a member’s art exhibition at the Norfolk Club. My artworks focused on two works, my portrait of John painted from life in lockdown and the illustrations for Dr Pat Oakley’s forthcoming book Louisa’s Lament which I am so proud to have illustrated.

The illustration above is of Newgate Prison when in 1880 Nurse Ingle faced the worst day of her life.

The pack of 7 postcards with all the illustrations in full colour were very popular. Can’t wait to see the illustrations in the book coming out shortly.

Artworks to cherish forever

A portrait, of a loved one, home or place, is timeless. A piece of fine art that is uniquely yours, or a gift to be enjoyed for generations. It can mark a special moment, capture the beauty or memory of a loved one young or old, or of a happy home.

What People Say…

A walk with my dog culminated in my daughter taking receipt of what is one of the very best birthday presents she has ever received; namely a wonderful canine portrait by the multi-talented June Schneider. The artwork alone would have been a most prized possession.

June’s portraits of my cats have accurately captured the essence of their individual personalities. June’s painting captures Cleo’s relaxed and sociable style whilst Hattie’s more withdrawn, slightly suspicious manner is perfectly caught, particularly in her eyes.

Seeing the portraits side by side reminds me the sisters had to be homed together – because Hattie needed Cleo’s presence to settle and socialise.

I feel that I must take a moment to write to show my appreciation for the beautiful painting you did of my Hungarian Puli, “Polly”.

What I didn’t expect was for how emotional I felt when I saw the painting, her likeness, movement and energy you captured took my breath away, she looked like she was coming out of the canvas!
