Welcome to Schneider Art & Design's illustrations.
Recently, I was proud to have been commissioned to illustrate Louisa's Lament, a true story that took place in 1892 at Guy's Hospital, Southwark. Each illustration was researched and visualised closely with the author to portray what she had seen in her minds eye, when writing the novel.

I am also excited to reveal that I am working on the next intriguing book cover by Annie Graham.

GUY’S HOSPITAL, SOUTHWALK – November 6, 1892,
Having lived in Southwalk this created a new challenge for me to visualise Guy's hospital in Victorian times,
"It was a miserable, drizzly, cold night in the front quad of Guy’s Hospital.. "

I. DR STEELE’S QUARTERS – November 6, 1892, late evening. Lights were ablaze in the Medical Superintendent’s quarters as surgeons fought to save Dr Steele’s life. He had lived at Guy’s for over thirty years but now, seriously ill, his thoughts turned to a shameful episode in the summer of 1880 when Guy’s had turned on one of its own. Was there anything he could do, even now, to help her?

II. GUY’S COLONNADE – June 16, 1880, mid-morning. A mob of over two hundred medical students had formed a gauntlet in the passage that led from Guy’s north quad to the south. The angry young men had left their lectures to protest the nursing reforms led by Guy’s Matron, Miss Burt. They seethed with hate as they shouted invectives against her. Exhausted by their protests, her heart sank when she saw Dr Habershon at the end of the colonnade.

IV. PATERNOSTER ROW, LONDON – July 30, 1880, early morning. Paternoster Row, the heart of the print industry, was heaving with delivery carts, cabs and people. Miss Lonsdale was irritated as she arrived late for her appointment with her publisher, Mr Kegan Paul. He had been worried about her role in the dispute at Guy’s Hospital and the damage to his reputation as her backer. Her writing career may have ended before it had begun.

VI. THE VERANDA – RANCHI HILL STATION, INDIA – December 31, 1892, mid-afternoon. Miss Ingle enjoyed the rich fragrances that filled the air on this sunny afternoon in her garden near Ranchi. She had endured so much hardship and loneliness over the years, and memories had been stirred up recently by a letter from London. It was New Year’s Eve and time to make her decision about returning to London.
